Where is your jewelry made?
Our pieces are created in and shipped from Lindsy’s PNW home studio.
How long will it take before my order ships?
Production is generally 3-6 business days prior to your order shipping. There are rush options in the ‘a la carte’ section or you can also choose priority shipping at checkout to cut down on the travel time of your package. We ship as quickly as possible and try to accommodate tight timelines - message us if you’re in a pinch!
How is handstamping different from engraving?
Handstamping is done by hammering individual letters, numbers and special characters into a metal blank. With this process, no two pieces will be exactly the same. Letters, numbers, and special characters may not be perfectly straight or aligned and spacing may vary. These are not imperfections - this is how handstamped jewelry is intended to be and what makes your piece unique and one-of-a-kind.
What are some popular personalization options?
Our most popular personalization requests are children's names, special dates, coordinates of a special location, nicknames, roman numerals, initials of kids, spouses, partners, etc. There are tons of samples on our Instagram @chipandchisel if you need good visuals.
What fonts do I have to choose from?
There’s a photo in each listing that lists our available fonts. Most designs can accommodate all font options unless otherwise specified. Some of our smaller designs cannot accommodate certain fonts due to the size.
How big are the letters on handstamped pieces?
In short, they are small. Handstamping is intended to be subtle in appearance - the jewelry itself is dainty and the personalization is meant to fit that same style. This style of jewelry is designed to be more for you than anyone else. The preference of most people is for lettering on their jewelry to be left natural (meaning just the impression of the stamp) and left to look light and subtle. For handstamping that’s more pronounced, you can always choose to have your personalization darkened even if there isn’t an option for this within the listing. Please specify your request in the notes box during checkout.
Do you offer a proof showing the personalization that will be handstamped onto my piece?
No. Because our pieces are made by hand and nothing is computer generated or created by a machine, there is no way to offer a proof. Your finished piece will look like the sample photos within the listing(s) you’ve purchased - the only difference will be that yours will be created with your specified personalization and/or any custom instructions you’ve noted in your order. Please keep in mind that the appearance of finished pieces will vary based on the number of characters stamped and the type of letters used. For example, the letters h, l, t, y, etc are taller than a, e, v, etc. Initials will have a different look than a long name or multiple names. Please feel free to message us with any concerns.
Will you reach out to me if you think something I’ve chosen will look “off”?
Definitely. I’ve created thousands of pieces, so I have a good idea as to what fonts might look best for your specific personalization, but keep in mind that everyone has a different style and prefers different looks. I may think something looks great and you might feel the exact opposite. I do reach out if I have concerns about how a finished piece will look based on the options you’ve chosen, but ultimately I create pieces as instructed.
I don’t really know what I want. Can I leave it up to you to decide on the details?
Sure! But you may not like what I choose. Everyone has different taste and I may think something looks great while you feel the exact opposite. I can certainly help you come up with the perfect piece for YOU - just message us.
What if I don’t like the font, size or style of the metal blank when I receive my piece?
You’ll want to be sure to choose the font/blank style that you best feel suits your style and vision for your design. Since personalized pieces are not eligible for a return or exchange, your original metal blank cannot be modified. There are lots of pieces posted on our Instagram @chipandchisel so you can really get a feel for the look of our overall designs. In the event that you would like to have a new blank stamped with a different font, you can purchase one and have the original swapped out. Pricing will vary based on the blank and metal you select.
What metals are used?
Unless otherwise specified, all jewelry items are made with 14kt gold filled, 14kt rose gold filled, or sterling silver. Gold filled metal is a pressure bonded layer of gold that has 100 times more gold than plated jewelry. It is durable, won't chip or flake, is tarnish resistant, and is a cost effective alternative to solid gold jewelry. When cared for properly, the metal has a finish that will last for years.
I have very sensitive skin - can I wear 14kt gold filled jewelry?
If you can wear solid gold, it's almost certain that you can wear gold filled without worry of allergic reaction.
How do I care for my jewelry?
Keeping your jewelry item dry ensures a longer life and leaves your jewelry looking newer longer. We highly recommend removing your jewelry at night and when working out, swimming, etc. Perfumes, soaps, products that contain chemicals, etc. can all damage metal and fade darkened lettering on all jewelry. Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place (not in the bathroom as there is a lot of moisture). Keep your jewelry in an airtight container or zip lock bag. To clean sterling silver and gold filled metals, we recommend using a jewelry cloth or a 100% cotton material.
What if my chain is too short/long?
If for some reason you requested the wrong chain length and your bracelet or necklace doesn't fit just right, we are happy to have you mail the item back to us so that we can make the change for you. We can add length to your piece with an extender for $3.00 per inch or there will be a $5.00 charge to shorten the length on each piece. There is a $3.95 US/$13.95 Int'l mailing charge for the first piece plus $1.00 for each additional piece to send the item(s) back to you. Charges for chain length adjustments made for upgraded chains (chain styles other than standard cable chain) will vary depending on chain style. Please use delivery confirmation when returning the package as we are not responsible for lost items.
I saw something on your social media page but don’t see it on your website. Can you create it for me?
Yep! We post photos of custom orders and also of pieces that are sometimes not listed yet. Just shoot us a message and we’ll help get you all taken care of.
I'm buying for more than one person. What if I need individual gift packaging?
At checkout, there will be an option for you to select individual gift packaging for each of the pieces in your order. Please select this, otherwise all items will be shipped on their own jewelry card but in one box.
I’m ordering a gift and having it shipped directly to the recipient. Can you include a personalized card?
Yes, absolutely! Just leave the instructions for the card in the notes box during checkout and we’ll include it with their gift.
Do you create special gifts for bridesmaids, teams, etc?
Yes! Send us a message - we’d love to help design something for you.
Do the photos on your website and social media show the pieces actual size?
No, that’s unfortunately not possible. All screens are different sizes and photos are taken close-up to show detail. Please see individual listings for measurements of each piece.
